THE FOSTER MINISTRY

AT CYPRESS BAPTIST CHURCH
At Cypress Baptist Church we seek to love God and love people. The Foster Ministry began in 2017 as an extension of that to help meet needs of our region’s foster families. We desire to have a thriving and well-supported foster care community in our church and the surrounding area. We have four main programs within the foster ministry:

THE FOSTER CLOSET

A free resource for children in care

EVENTS

We host many opportunities for the foster community to come together

WRAP

An internal support network for our church’s foster families which stands for Words of Encouragement, Respite, Acts of Service, and Prayer,

FOSTER CHILD MENTOR PROGRAM

In partnership with Brentwood Hospital
As disciples of Christ, we have been given a mandate to serve and support the most vulnerable in our community. James 1:27, states “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained [a]by the world.” When James stated that “true religion” is to care for widows and orphans, he wasn’t giving us an exhaustive list, but an indicative one. The people of God are to care for those who cannot care for themselves and be a voice for the one who has no voice.
Here at Cypress, we have several families who have answered this call by serving as foster families for children displaced from their homes due to maltreatment. This work is very challenging and cannot be successfully sustained without consistent support from the church as a whole. The level of sacrifice and disruption experienced by these families goes largely unnoticed but is essential to the safety and restoration of a wounded child. While not everyone is called to foster, everyone is called to help those who do.

Ways to Support

There are may ways you can help support our foster families:

Donate to the Foster Closet

We serve children ages 0-21. We accept new and gently used clothing (sizes preemie-Adult XXL), shoes, toys, books, baby gear, backpacks, and crib and twin bedding. We also accept NEW diapers, wipes, pull-ups, socks, underwear, and formula. Donations may be dropped off during Open Shop hours, which are every Tuesday, Wednesday, and third Saturday between 10:00 and 2:00.

Serve at the Foster Closet

It takes many hands to keep the Foster Closet running! We welcome volunteers to sort donations, wash clothes, and display clean items.

Occasional Meal Prep

The Foster Closet now has a deep freeze where we keep prepared snacks and meals for foster families. We need snacks and meals to stock the freezer.

Support a Foster Family

Assist a specific foster family through monthly meal delivery, home projects, tutoring, childcare/respite care, transportation, child mentorship, etc. This is an amazing way to walk side-by-side with a family in need.

Mentor a Foster Child

Our ministry has a mentor program in partnership with Brentwood Hospital where we visit with children in care who have no other visitors.

Prayer & Encouragement

The work of a foster family is very difficult, and the role of prayer can mean the difference between sustaining or suspending a placement. Words of encouragement (such as notes) are also essential to the well-being of the family.
To fulfill one of these support roles, or if you have any questions or need additional information, contact our lead volunteer, Allison Singleton, below.
